These conceptual object paintings are significant for me (conceptual in this context being a field between representative and abstract).  There is history and emotion here – viewpoints created with a graphic spin for the glass series in particular.

Be YourselfBe Yourself

Be Yourself

2017 Acrylic on Canvas 76 x 76cm

Be Yourself is a painted analogy for finding our own place in the world.  We are all created human, but thrive in different ways – be it in solitary spaces or in solidarity with others.

You might notice the small wonky blown-glass bottle stands alone. Yet has a quirky presence filling a larger space.  A correlation for quiet, creative people who bloom when left alone to come up with their best work.

The blue bottles are also made of glass, but are tall, beautiful and manufactured to match. Each one born powerful; their presence amplified as a group – unifying and gregarious.

You might see their collective heartbeat spiking and flowing like an ECG.  Their dominant joined shadow spills out over the frame.  They do best working together, without silence.

Something to reflect on…

Songs of Glass – Aria

2016 Acrylic on Canvas 30 x 30cm (33 x 33cm Framed Original)

Original (framed) work exhibited at Central Plaza One in Brisbane May 16th to 19th 2017 for the Rotary Art Spectacular (benefit) exhibition.

Songs of Glass – Aria is the first of three graphic style paintings of a Venetian Glass vase.

Swirls on vibrant manganese blue emulate traditional white cane glass blowing techniques.

As sunlight passes by, you might also see the perspective change. Light catches the raised white whorls from different angles.

Songs of Glass – Sonata

2016 Acrylic on Canvas 30 x 30cm (33 x 33cm Framed Original)

Exhibited at Lions Macgregor Art Extravaganza (benefit) exhibition, Garden City Westfield, Brisbane June 26th to July 9th 2017

Songs of Glass – Sonata is the second of three graphic style paintings of a Venetian glass vase.

Sonata paints a different angle to Aria.  You see again echoes of the movement and mystery which white cane glass-blowing evokes.

Songs of Glass – Cantata

2016 Acrylic on Canvas 30 x 30cm (33 x 33cm Framed Original)

Exhibited at Goondiwindi Aspects Art Show, May 4th-6th 2017

Songs of Glass – Cantata is the third graphic painting of a Venetian glass vase.

Cantata is a more graphic style than the other two in this series.  This painting features the slender neck of the vase and exquisite shape from that angle.  A stripe of colour adds variety to the facsimile of traditional white cane glass.
